What are muscle knots?

Whenever a muscle is put under strain, an injury occurs, or is overused there is risk for the development of myofascial trigger points, or what are commonly known as “knots”. Knots occur when the fibers within the muscle contract and are unable to release, thus producing palpable points in the muscle that are often tender and painful. Knots can develop anywhere in the body but are more likely to develop in areas commonly exposed to high stress and tension such as the neck, back, hip, butt, shoulder, and bicep muscles. One of the many benefits to the type of massage Equilete offers is that it specifically addresses these myofascial trigger points helping to release the contracted tissue and increase the blood circulation to the affected area.
